This shawl celebrates the saturated colors that dance through stained glass windows. Raised Catholic, this scarf pattern celebrates the imposing windows of the Basilica of St. Mary where I was baptized and the Ascension church and school I attended. As life expanded outside north Minneapolis, I remembered the simplicity when visiting my first suburban church. Gone were the over the top furnishings, but light still played across a prominent sun catcher by the altar. When we much later went to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the stunning stained glass artistry left us speechless. The fabric is created hrough the nuno wet felting process, which combines silk fabric with fine layers of merino wool and bits of bamboo, silk and colorful embellishments.
Inspired by stained glass windows, including the Tiffany windows owned by the City of Duluth.
- Dimensions: 46 inches long by 12 inches wide; with fringe 64 inches by 12 inches.
- Fibers: 100% black silk chiffon, combined with fine layers of complementary shades of magenta, black, purple and green merino wool.
- Fringe and embellishments include silk and bamboo fibers; specialty and novelty yarn; and angelina fibers.
